Wife of Lagos Commissioner, Prof (Mrs) Olatunji-Bello, Appointed New LASU VC + 8 Facts About Her


Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University.

A professor of Physiology, she had served as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution before her elevation and is the wife of the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello.

With this appointment, she becomes the ninth Vice Chancellor of LASU and the second female to occupy the exalted post in the Lagos State-owned tertiary institution.

Her appointment was announced in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu approves appointment of Vice Chancellor for LASU’, on Thursday.

Here are some facts about her

1. Olatunji-Bello was born in Lagos on the 23 of April 1964 into the family of Chief and Mrs. Eniola Ibidapo, from Owo in Ondo State.

2. She had her primary education at the Anglican Girls Primary School and secondary education at the Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School both in Surulere and Lagos State College of Science and Technology.

3. She proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she bagged a BSc in Physiology.


4. She assumed duty as the First Professor of Physiology in LASU College of Medicine on the 2nd of October 2007 after rising through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer (1988 to 1991) to Associate Professor in 2005 at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba.

5. Mrs. Olatunji-Bello attended the Course 34 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, the highest policy advisory body of the Federal Government, as a nominee of the National Universities Commission in 2012.

6. A member of the National Institute (mni), Mrs. Olatunji-Bello holds a Fellowship Award of the Physiological Society of Nigeria and was also appointed a Fellow of the Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation in the year 2019.

7. She is the Area Pastor in charge of the Testimony Chapel, an area under Lagos Province 1 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG).

8. She is happily married to Tunji Bello, a journalist and lawyer, and the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, and the former Secretary to Lagos State Government. They are blessed with 3 children.
