Nigerians are demanding justice over the rape and murder of a 22-year-old lady in Benin.
Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 level Microbiology undergraduate of the University of Benin was raped and killed inside a church by unknown men where she had gone to read.
The tragic incident occured at a Redeemed Church around the Ikpoba Hill area of Benin City on Wednesday, May 27.
According to reports, her head was also smashed with an extinguisher, she was rushed to the hospital but she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.
Her death comes just days after Tina, a 16-year-old girl was shot dead by the police in Lagos.
The hashtag #JusticeForUwa is trending on Twitter as Nigerians are calling for an end to the killings.
Uwa’s story breaks me. We all have to admit that our parents have failed woefully in the raising of the male child. Concentrating too much on the conduct of the female child when it’s actually the males who have the higher propensity to do evil! #JusticeForUwa

The saddest part of all this is that the culprits might never be found. After brutally raping, abusing and killing this innocent woman and causing her pain in her last minutes alive, those people will go Scott free and live their lives like nothing happened. #JusticeForUwa

All she did was go to read in a church building, yet exceedingly vile people decided to rape her, as if that was not enough, they killed her.
This is one case that must not be swept under the carpet, the people who did this must be brought to book.#JusticeForUwa

Few days ago, #JusticeForTina was trending. Today, it is #JusticeForUwa. The Nigerian state must do all to protect our young girls. Their lives matter and any criminal who attacks and ends it brutally must be brought to justice.

Women talk about men raping them everyday and they are blamed for being in the wrong place, dating wrong men, wearing revealing clothes, but Uwa was reading in a church, what is your excuse this time? What is your excuse? My heart hurts! I want justice for her #JusticeForUwa
