Korra Obidi is a popular Nigerian model, dancer, and musician. Her style of dancing is a very unique one, as she calls herself a movement expert.

Here are a few things to know about her.

Early Life

She was born Anita Korra Obidi on June 23, 1994, and she hails from the Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. Her mother is late.

Korra Obidi has two sisters, one of whom is popular food content creator Nancy Umeh. She grew up in a very churchy environment, Deeper Christian Life Ministries, to be exact.

She attended Command Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos, before proceeding to the University of Lagos to study business education.

Career

Dancing

She started dancing in her childhood days; as far back as 2007, she danced for rapper ‘Sasha.’

Korra Obidi’s journey into the entertainment industry started at UNILAG during a tour with some Nigerian artists as a professional dancer.

Korra also received formal training in belly dancing as well as the classical Odissi in Cairo and Lagos under the tutelage of Priti Mastakar.

In October 2015, she toured as an independent artist with the African Basketball League. In 2017-18, to several African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire.

In 2016, Obidi performed alongside Walid Atallah at the Ladies A’la Mode in Muscat, Oman, and the Burj Al Arab, Dubai, as the only Black act representing women of color.

She made headlines in 2019 when she featured on the American top dance show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ when she was six months pregnant. She is the first pregnant woman ever on the show.

Music

Her professional music career started in 2015 when she released her debut album titled ‘Man Like You’. Following its success, she released her debut EP, ‘Woman Power.’

She released ‘Africa,’ a World Cup song, in 2017. Over the years, she has released several songs like Jeje, Alter Ego, My Bobo, Parkwell, No Time, Money Be Person, among others.

Vibration’ featuring Victoria Kimani, ’50/50,’ and ‘Drop’ are her most recent singles.

Modelling

Korra was a lead model for the Black-Eyed Peas music video “Wings.” She was crowned Miss Radiography 2009 at the University of Lagos; Miss Moremi in 2010, also at the University of Lagos; and Miss Congeniality for Miss Global Nigeria in 2014.

Korra has appeared on several runways, such as GTBank Fashion Week and the Port Harcourt International Fashion Week.

She has also worked with different high-profile features, such as Davido, Timi Dakolo, Orezi, and many more.

Personal Life

Korra Obidi got married to her American husband, Dr. Justin Dean, a sports therapist, on December 17, 2017, in Lagos. They welcomed their first child, June, in July 2019. The couple separated shortly after welcoming their second child, Athena, in March 2022.

In November 2022, the dancer took to social media to celebrate the finalization of their divorce. The couple has two daughters together, June and Athena.
