Laide Bakare is a popular Nollywood actress, movie producer, and entrepreneur known for her outstanding roles in Yoruba movies.

Here’s everything you should know about her as she turns 40.

1.Early Life

Laide Bakare was born on the 7th of October, 1980 in Lagos but hails from Oyo state.

After her secondary education, she bagged a degree in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos

She also holds a diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, Oyo state.

2.Career

Laide’s journey into the movie industry was through her father who owned an hotel where movie actors lodged.

She soon made her acting debut in 1999 where she starred in a movie titled “Adeyemi” produced by Muka Ray.

She has acted in over 50 movies among them which include Asiri Owo (The Secret of Wealth), Okun Omo Iya (Family Ties), Ore Meta (The three friends).


3.Personal Life

She revealed in an interview that she didn’t get married to her first partner, Olumide Okufulure as many thought. The relationship produced a girl, Simi.

She got married to Alhaji Atanda Orilowo secretly but left him, following the issues he had with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over some fraudulent activities. The union produced two boys.

She became a US citizen in 2017.

4.Awards

Laide won BON awards in 2012 for best Costume for her movie Jejere, which featured musician 9ice as a lead actor.

She bagged a recognition award at the Wazobia 2018 Nollywood Awards.

5. Achievements

The actress launched her record label, SimLine Records in 2012.

She was set to launch her film academy, a foundation, and a travel agency shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic.
