President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, August 2 submitted a second batch ministerial list to the Senate comprising 19 nominees. On the nominees list were two women, Maryam Shetty, and Lola Ade-John.

Read below their impressive profiles.

1. Maryam Shetty

Ms. Maryam Shetty is a social entrepreneur, a physiotherapist, and a politician in addition to her prominent role in the field of supporting women and expanding the circle of her participation in society,

She was born into a royal family in Kano. She attended the Federal School of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, where she finished with a distinction.

She earned her Master’s Degree from the University of East London, Stratford where she majored in sports physiotherapy.

Prior to that, she worked briefly with Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano.

Ms. Shetty also obtained a certificate and became a practitioner of Kingian Non-Violence, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from Emory University in the United States. She also bags a Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century Certificate from the University of Virginia.

She was awarded an Honorary Degree for her outstanding roles in Leadership and Community Development by the ESGT University of Technology, Benin Republic.

As a physiotherapist, she has worked with top-tier athletes including legendary athlete and world record holder, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt. She was on the medical team of the London Olympics where she worked with the Jamaican superstar athlete.


Maryam Shetty is actively engaged in various roles within the Presidential Campaign Team Field Operations. She also served as a member of the Youth and Women Presidential Campaign Team, specifically focusing on Strategic Communication during the 2023 elections.

2. Lola Ade-John

With over a three-decade-long career, Lola Ade John is known for her stellar contribution to the banking and technology sector. She obtained a B.Sc. in Computer Science in 1984 finishing as the top graduate of her class that year. 

During her National Youth Service year, she supported systems for Petroleum Engineers and the Personnel department across various divisions. Subsequently, she served as a System Analyst at The Shell Petroleum Development Company Of Nigeria Ltd for 7 years and 3 months, contributing significantly to crucial projects. 

She soon joined Magnum Trust Bank Ltd. (now part of Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc.), becoming the ex-Group Head of Corporate Services & Tech where she played a pivotal role in establishing Information Technology, Administration, Personnel & Training, and Business Development departments. She also pioneered the use of structured cabling in the Nigerian banking industry and successfully implemented new technology platforms for the bank, ensuring its competitiveness and growth.

In June 1998, she transitioned to Access Bank Plc as the Group Head of Support Services and Technology. Over a period of 13 years and 1 month, she led transformative projects, including the construction of a new Head Office building and data center with an investment of $3 million in technology. Her innovative approach, such as implementing a paperless office environment, set new standards for efficiency and sustainability.

Continuing her journey in the banking sector, Lola Ade John served as the Head of Applications at United Bank for Africa, where she led a project team to migrate customer and bank data to a centralised core banking platform, driving the bank’s growth and modernisation.

Lola Ade John is currently the Principal Consultant at Novateur Business Technology Consultants, a company she founded in 2014.
