Meghan Markle Talked About Feminism When She Was Age 11 And It’s Trending For All The Right Reasons

Meghan Markle and her royal beau, Prince Harry, have been in the eye of the media since the news of their engagement recently, but the ‘Suits’ actress is trending for another fabulous reason.

As an humanitarian, she has been actively involved in a number of philanthropic projects and even hold titles such as Global Ambassador for World Vision, advocate for UN women, and counsellor for ‘One Young World.’

Apparently, Meghan has been lending her voice to fighting the course of women since the age of 11 according to her speech, “When I was just 11 years old, I unknowingly and somehow accidentally became a female advocate,” Markle said at the UN Women’s “20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference of Women in Beijing” event in 2015.

Meghan’s foray into the world of activism started after seeing a sexist dish-washing liquid commercial reducing women’s role to the kitchen.

“Two boys from my class said, ‘Yeah, that’s where women belong, in the kitchen,'” she said. “I remember feeling shocked and angry and also just feeling so hurt — it just wasn’t right and something needed to be done.”

The actress had then gone home to tell her dad about the incident who then encouraged her to write about it. Meghan wrote to then first lady, Hillary Clinton and two other notable women and they all responded, encouraging her point of view.

After her heroic act made it to the news, a month later the commercial for the dish-washing liquid was changed.

“It was at that moment that I realized the magnitude of my actions. At the age of 11, I had created my small level of impact by standing up for equality.”
