Mercy Johnson Okojie is a Nigerian actress, film producer, and brand ambassador. Mercy’s versatility in every role she takes on captivates her audience, leading to numerous awards.

 Early Life

Mercy Johnson-Okojie was born on the 28th of August 1984 in Lagos to a former naval officer, Mr. Daniel Johnson, and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, but she hails from Okene in Kogi State.

She is the fourth child in a family of seven. Her father was later transferred to Lagos State, where she continued her education at the Nigerian Navy primary school.

She went to the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for her secondary education.

Career

She auditioned for a role in ‘The Maid,’ a 2004 movie that launched her to fame after completing her secondary education. Her performance in that movie paved the way for additional roles in movies such as Women in Power (2005), Married to the Enemy (2006), Twist of Fate (2007), Don’t Wanna Be A Player (2008), Mercy The Bus Driver (2012), Baby Oku in America (2013), and The Legend of Inikpi (2020), to mention a few. She currently has over 100 movies to her name.

On the 3rd of November 2013, the movie marketers of Nollywood prohibited her from acting over allegations of exorbitant charges per movie. The ban was later lifted on March 9, 2014, following an apology from the actress.

She became the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State governor on entertainment, arts, and culture on 1 April 2017.

In February 2026, she was appointed as special adviser on engagement and advocacy by the Edo State governor.

Personal life

She got married to Prince Odianosen Okojie in 2011, and they have four children, three girls and a boy.

Mercy Johnson has been nominated for over 30 awards. In 2009, she won the award for Best Supporting Actress at the African Movie Awards ceremony for her role in Live to Remember.

In 2013, she won the Best Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her role in the comedy movie ‘Dumebi the Dirty Girl.’

In 2014, she won the Popular Choice-Female award at the 2014 Nollywood Movies Awards. In December 2011, she was listed as Google’s most searched Nigerian celebrity, a position she also held in 2012.

In November 2018, she bagged the ELOY Award for best actress of the year for the movie Seven and a Half Dates.

In March 2018, Mercy was made the brand ambassador for Mr. Chef, an iodized salt company. In April, she was also appointed as a brand ambassador for Virony Nigeria Limited.

In October 2019, Okojie signed a deal with Chi Limited’s Prime brand, Hollandia Evap Milk. She also became a brand ambassador for Pennek Nigeria Limited, a real estate investment company based in Lagos.

In February 2026, she signed a multi-million naira endorsement deal alongside her daughter, Purity, as brand ambassadors for Girls Tag, a Nigerian menstrual health initiative.

 

She is also the author of a children’s book, ‘Youberty,’ focused on puberty education.
