The Story of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar: How She Died In The Den Of Kidnappers, Sisters Still Held Hostage

The 21-year-old graduate of Biological Science from Ahmadu Bello University was murdered after she was kidnapped alongside her father, Alhaji Mansoor, and her five sisters in Abuja.

When Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar was celebrating the completion of her education in 2023, little did she know what lay ahead of her.

The 21-year-old graduate of Biological Science from Ahmadu Bello University was murdered after she was kidnapped alongside her father, Alhaji Mansoor, and her five sisters in Abuja.

It all started on January 2, 2024, when kidnappers stormed the Al-Kadriyar home in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja. During the abduction, the kidnappers shot dead Alhaji Mansoor’s brother, Abdulfatai, who had earlier alerted the police.

A cousin of the kidnapped family, Adamu Asiya, alerted the public the following day, Wednesday, January 3, via X, adding that her uncle was killed in the process. She said, “Please pray for my sisters and uncle when you see this. Nabeeha, her sisters, and her dad were kidnapped in their house last night. We lost an uncle in the process. Your duas are needed.”

Days later, she revealed that their father had been released while the girls were being held captive with a ransom of N60 million placed on their lives.

Two days after her first tweet, she informed the public that the father of the girls was released by the kidnappers with a ransom of N60m placed on the lives of the Najeebah and her sisters with a deadline given. The hashtag, #Najeebaandhersisters was subsequently created to raise the N60m demanded by the kidnappers.

Sadly, Nabeeha was killed by her abductors after failing to meet the deadline for payment of the ransom raising the ransom to N100m. She was buried on Saturday, January 13 according to Islamic rites.

Following her death, there was an outrage on social media as netizens called for the government and relevant authorities to fish out the kidnappers while a fundraising campaign was launched to help meet the target to save the other sisters.

Nabeeha’s uncle gives an account of how she was killed

One of the victim’s uncles, Sherifdeen who gave an account of the incident said the kidnappers were angry which led to Nabeeha’s death when they told them they had only raised half of the N60 million ransom.

He recalled that he was called on Friday (the day the deadline lapsed) to come to an undisclosed location in the dead of the night; however, on getting there around 10 p.m., he was met with Nabeeha’s corpse alongside three other bodies.  He also said the N30 million was rejected, while a deadline of Wednesday, January 17, was given for the N100 million ransom as the kidnappers warned and threatened that the other siblings would be murdered.

Ex-Minister Pantami’s Friend Donates N50Million for the Release of Late Nabeeha’s Sisters

Speaking on the incident, former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, announced that one of his friends has volunteered to donate the sum of N50 million as part of fundraising for the ransom demanded by kidnappers for the release of five sisters of the late Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, killed by their abductors.

However, Pantami expressed his reservations about victims paying ransom to criminals but noted that Nabeeha’s death and the lives of her five siblings in the kidnappers’ den had made the situation imperative for the ransom to be paid.

Nigerians have continued to speak out on social media as they called on government authorities to fish out Nabeeha’s killers, just as various kidnapping incidences have been brought up.
