Celebrities and controversies are like peas in a pod. Over the years, Nigerian female celebrities have been involved in nude photos and sex tape scandals some of which made headlines across the country.
Here are some celebrities that have been involved in nude and sex tape blackmail.
1. Salawa Abeni
In April 2020, Veteran singer, Salawa Abeni had taken to Instagram to call out an alleged blackmailer identified as Jason who was planning to leak her nude photos.
The ‘Waka’ Queen revealed that Jason had sent her the photos on WhatsApp, threatening to release more to the public if she didn’t pay him. However, in a bid to thwart his attempts, the musician released the photos herself.
In her Instagram post, she expressed her disappointment at how the unknown individual is trying to “tarnish my image and destroy my career of over 45 years.”
2. Toke Makinwa
Media personality, Toke Makinwa in April 2020 cried out on Instagram that she was being blackmailed with nude photos that were photoshopped. She however took the bold step of releasing the nude pictures herself.
In anger, she wrote:
“I am sharing this ahead of your threats to release these edited/false images cos this is disappointing, this is not humanity, there is a pandemic killing people and there’s also certain human beings wanting to exploit people in a time when we should all spread love and kindness.
“Stop with your bloody emails already I am not the one, not yesterday, not today, not ever. I don’t have any money to give you.
3. Tacha
Barely 24 hours after Toke Makinwa raised an alarm, Tacha also exposed plots to blackmail her with photoshopped nude photos.
The former reality star shared a photo of her that was photoshopped to make her look naked, which the scammers -the same ones who threatened Toke with edited nudes – sent to threaten her. The scammers sent her a mail warning that they will publish the photo on their website if she doesn’t respond claiming someone sent the photo to them.
Taking to Twitter, She wrote, “You’re trying to have a good day, you wake up to messages from your team telling you to check your mail, you check your mail only to find this!! I have to deal with evil demeaning DMs everyday!!! Every ******* day!….”
4. Belinda Effah
Actress Belinda Effah who now goes by the name of Grace-Charis Bassey Effah also revealed a plot to release photoshopped nude photos of her.
This was in a reaction to Toke and Tacha’s nude photo blackmail.
She wrote, “Wow these are really hard times for Nigerians that they waste their intelligence on blackmailing people. Ok, so some hungry Nigerians decided to superimpose these pictures I posted here on Instagram on August 16th, 2019 while filming at Inagbe Resort with some naked body and sent by mail to me that they want to make me trend by exposing my nudes to different blogs if I don’t settle them… Is this how hungry you guys have become? You now seek to blackmail innocent citizens who are also struggling for survival just like you…”
5. Tiwa Savage
In October 2021, Tiwa shocked everyone when she revealed that she was being blackmailed over a sex tape of herself and her partner in an interview with Angie Martinez, an American OAP.
According to the Afro-pop star, the video was leaked after her partner had accidentally posted it on his snap chat, unfortunately, someone got the video before it was deleted.
The internet went agog with the sex tape leak and is one of the most controversial celebrity news headlines to date.
6. Empress Njamah
It all started in December 2022 when the actress posted a video of her engagement ring which sparked lots of reactions. Days later, she took to her Instagram to make an official statement about the issue.
She revealed that the video was posted under duress and that she was being assaulted and blackmailed by her ex-fiance, George Wade who had hacked and gained access to her Instagram account.
On Jan 3, 2023, Wade came under fire on social media for allegedly sharing a nude video of the actress.
According to reports, he created a WhatsApp group where he added multiple people and began posting naked videos he took of the actress in her house, including innocent videos of her taking her bath.
