Omoni Oboli is a Nigerian actress, scriptwriter, director, producer, entrepreneur and influencer.


Below are a few things to know about the versatile actress:

1. Omoni Oboli was born on April 22, 1978, in Benin City, Edo State.

2. She completed both her primary and secondary school education in Benin City before proceeding to the University of Benin where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in French.

3. Omoni began her movie career with a role in Bitter Encounter (1996), where she played a secretary. She followed it with roles in Shame, Not My WillDestined To Die, and Another Campus Tale.

4. After enjoying a brief career, Omoni left the movie industry to complete her university education and got married in 2000 to Nnamdi Oboli. This made her leave the acting scene.

5. She returned to the industry in 2009, then realized the movie industry no longer had room for her. Then she made the decision to start production of her movies which include “Wives On Strike”, ‘Being Mrs. Elliot”,”Okafor’s Law” and “Mom At War”. Oboli has also played lead roles in movies like The Figurine (2009),  Anchor Baby (2010), Being Mrs. Elliot, and Fifty (2015).

6. She won the prize for Best International Drama at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival for “Rivals” a movie she co-produced with her friend.

7. Her movie “Wives On Strike” won the prize for Best International Drama at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.

8. In 2010, she won the award for Best Actress Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Movie Awards and the award for Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival making her the first actress from Nollywood to win Best Actress in two international festivals.

9. Some of her awards include the ‘Big Screen Actress of the Year award’, at the 2014 ELOY Awards, for her movie Being Mrs. Elliott, Sun Nollywood “Personality of the Year” in 2015 and Best Supporting Actress –English at Best of Nollywood Awards in 2017.

10. She was announced as one of the Toronto International Film Festival ”Tiff” ambassadors in July 2017.

11. In partnership with international fashion designer, Ayo Van Elmar, Omoni Oboli launched her fashion brand ‘Omoni Oboli by AVE’ on Sunday, June 4th, 2017.

12. Her movie “Okafor’s Law” was the first African film to be showcased at the Busan International Film Festival BIFF, South Korea.

13. She launched her book ‘ The Stars Are Ageless’ to mark her 40th birthday in 2018.

14. She was among the 27 participants selected across Africa for the 2018 cohort of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellowship.

15. She was featured in the first Nollywood and Hollywood Animation movie titled, Elliot The Littlest Reindeer.
