Zainab Ahmed has recently been appointed as the acting minister of finance by President Buhari. She is a seasoned public servant who has many years of experience in the financial and governmental sectors. She was appointed after the resignation of Mrs. Kemi Adeosun on the 14th of September, 2018.

Here are 10 things you should know about her.

1. Zainab Ahmed was born in Kaduna on the 16th of June 1960.

2. She got her WASC ‘O’ level in 1977 from Queen Amina College, Zaria, and her IJMB ‘A’ levels from ABU Zaria in 1979.

3. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an MBA from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.

4. She served the nation as a youth corps member in 1981/1982, working as an audit trainee at Messrs. Egunjobi Suleiman & Co. Chartered Accountants, which was her place of primary assignment.

5. Ahmed was employed in 1982 as an Accountant II in the Main Accounts of the Ministry of Finance in Kaduna State and was promoted to Accountant I in March 1984 but resigned in 1985 to join NITEL.

6. Between July 2002 and 2009, she served as the Acting Chief Finance Officer in MTEL, Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Ltd.

7. She was appointed as the minister of state for budget and national planning following the national general elections in 2015.

8. Ahmed holds fellowship status with the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and is affiliated with both the Nigerian Institute of Taxation and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

9. She has held several high-ranking positions, including managing director of the Kaduna State of Nigeria’s investment company and being a board member of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI). She also serves as an ex officio member on the ICRC Governing Board.

10. In October 2022, the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) was conferred on her by President Muhammadu Buhari.
