5 Ways To Save Money While Shopping During The Holidays

Eid el-Kabir is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah’s (God’s) command to sacrifice his son. Shopping for a festival as big as this could cause some serious dents in your pocket.

However, while you prepare to go shopping for the celebration, here are 5 tips you need to guide you to make your preparation easier and avoid making serious financial mistakes.

1. Make a list of what you need

Having a list of what you want to buy before going to market will help and guide your shopping. Lists, as simple as they sound can prevent you from over-spending and go out of your budget. So write a list before you got for your shopping and do not forget to include the prices of the items so you also do not leave with more money than you need.

2. Have a Budget

This goes hand-in-hand with writing a list. Expenses wise, nothing should be done outside your budget even if you are going to spend big this season.

It is pretty easy to overspend during this festive period. But having a budget will surely guide your spending. So how much do you intend to spend?

3. Avoid throwing an expensive party

Remember that your celebration does not have to be a party. Parties cost a lot of money. You have to pay way more for food and drinks. And these costs can be avoided by simply organizing something smaller and having a few friends come over.

4. Use what you already have

Everything does not have to be new. So go into your store, dust some of your old decorations and re-use them.

5. Think thrifty

There are several ways to save some green while shopping for your Eid-el-Kabir this season. And that’s thrift shops. This time of year, most thrift shops will have an aisle or two devoted to the festivities. You can find many items, sometimes new and unopened, for little money. Thrift stores are a wonderful place to get a mix and match holiday dish set, as well as vases, candle holders and much more. The thrill of the hunt is half the fun when shopping second hand.
