On Women Breastfeeding In Public

Is Public Breastfeeding Such An Abominable Act? Here Is Why We Don’t Think So

In recent times, more people have voiced out their dislike for women breastfeeding in public and this is a topic that is very widely discussed.

Men and even some women find the act of breastfeeding in public disgusting and suggest that mothers should cover up or find a private place to breastfeed.

This Woman Breastfed Her Sister’s Hungry Baby And Millions Of Women Are Talking About It

Yesterday, the story of how a nursing mother, Brittni Medina, was shamed for breastfeeding her baby at Disneyland and her response to her critics went viral.

As expected, a lot of people had a problem with the fact that she had chosen to breastfeed her son in public instead of in a private place but she was not having it as she responded to them immediately.

In her words on Facebook, “

“Because people want to act all bent out of shape no I was not walking around feeding him in this moment – I have tho (sic) before and would do it again).

I was standing in a very long line to get our picture taken. My son got hungry and I wasn’t going to wait in another line again so I took off my first top and nursed.

These women were making snarky comments so I moved from my spot to catch a picture with these characters.”

Talking about women being afraid to feed their babies, she wrote:

“Not for attention for me but attention to the fact NO WOMEN SHOULD BE SHAMED FOR FEEDING THEIR BABY UNCOVERED.”

So the question is at what point did breastfeeding a baby become an abominable act? What happens when a baby gets hungry and begins to cry? Is the mother supposed to watch her baby go through hunger pangs because “society” demands that she not expose her breasts in public?

We admit that some women have to learn to cover up in public and breastfeed in a dignifying manner but saying that women should stop breastfeeding in public is a total NO-NO.

So ladies, what do you think? Is the act of breastfeeding in public so irritating? Should there be a law against mothers breastfeeding in public or should mothers be let free to do as they wish?
