A battery ingestion by a child is every mother’s worst nightmare, as it is very dangerous.
Button batteries are small, coin-shaped batteries used in remotes, toys, etc.
When ingested, it could become lodged in the esophagus and cause a potentially serious injury due to a chemical reaction between the esophagus lining and the battery’s remaining current.
The result: a caustic burn whose severity can escalate just minutes after a battery enters the body.
A Nigerian doctor, @DrOlufunmilayo, on Twitter has shared tips and measures to take if your child accidentally swallows a battery.
