Aishaty Dahiru Binani is a Senator representing Adamawa Central in the Nigerian Senate.

Over the past few weeks, Binani has been thrown into a tussle with INEC over Adamawa’s governorship election result.

Recall that the Adamawa governorship supplementary election was conducted on Saturday, April 15 following the declaration of the March 18 poll as inconclusive over alleged irregularities.


Here are some things to know about Senator Binani.

1. Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani was born on August 11, 1971.

2. She had her elementary and secondary education in Kaduna State before heading to the University of Southampton, where she obtained a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

3. Her political journey began in 2011 when she was elected as a House of Representatives member to represent Yola North/Yola South/Girei federal constituency as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

4. She defected to the All Progressive Congress in 2019, where she picked the nomination form to become a Nigerian senator. She won the party primaries and was elected to represent Adamawa Central Senatorial zone in the 2019 election.

5. In May 20222, Binani defeated six male candidates to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State. She polled 430 votes to defeat her closest contestant, Nuhu Ribadu, the pioneer Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who got 288 votes.

6. On the 14th of October 2022, a federal high court in Yola nullified the candidacy of Binani as the gubernatorial aspirant of the APC in Adamawa.

7. She is the founder of Binani Nigeria Limited and the Binani Group of Companies which comprises Binani Air.

8. She is currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

9. Aisha Binani is married to Professor Ahmed Modibbo and they are reportedly blessed with 5 children.
