The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards is the most talked about entertainment award on the continent. From all the amazing red carpet fashion to the stunning award winners, it is one award everyone looks forward to.

One of the major awards of the #AMVCA is the trailblazer award. The AMVCA Trailblazer Award is a special award given by MultiChoice to an actor/actress through Africa Magic for outstanding achievement the previous year.

Over the years, notable female celebrities have proven their worth and bagged this special award.

We’ve put together a list so you can get to know more about these talented women.

1. Ivie OkujayeAMVCA TrailBlazer Award Winners

Ivie Okujaye is a Nigerian actress, producer, scriptwriter, dancer, singer, and activist. In 2009 she participated and won the Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) reality TV show. In 2013, Okujaye won the Trailblazer Award at the AMVCA.

 

2. Michelle Bello

Michelle Bello is a British Nigerian film director and film producer. She is also the CEO of a Nigerian-based entertainment and publishing company, Blu Star Entertainment Limited. In 2014, Bello won the AMVCA Trailblazer Award.

The judges who had voted stated that the award was being given to her “for her commitment and demonstrated talent, her versatility and potential for cutting-edge approaches to African cinema”.  This award came with a brand-new Hyundai sports car

3. Kemi Lala Akindoju

Kemi “Lala” Akindoju is a Nigerian actress. In 2016, She won the Africa Magic Trailblazer Award for her role in the film adaptation of Dazzling Mirage.


4. Somkele Iyamah

Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama is a Nigerian TV and film actress and model. She is well known for her roles in 93 Days (2016), The Wedding Party (2016), The Arbitration (2016), and the TV series Gidi Up (2013–present). In  2017, Iyamah went home with the AMVCA Trailblazer Award.

5. Bisola Aiyeola

Bisola Aiyeola is fondly remembered as the 1st runner-up of the 2017 Big Brother Nigeria Reality TV Show. She was also one of the contestants at MTN Project Fame West Africa in 2008 where she came 5th. In 2018, Bisola took home the Trailblazer Award.

6. Teniola Aladese

Teniola Aladese is a Nigerian actress, producer, and director. She was a production coordinator on 30 Africa Magic Original Films from 2013 to 2015.

She came into the limelight after starring as Akweyon in Africa Magic’s ‘Jemeji‘ on which she was also Production Manager. In 2021, Aladese won the Trailblazer Award.  She also received $2,000 from Hollywood actresses, Tasha and Sidra Smith for her award.

7. Angel Unigwe

Angel Unigwe is a Nigerian actress, model, and presenter who has also featured in popular television commercials. The 27-year-old started as a child actor making her debut in 2015 after taking up roles in ‘Alison’s Stand,’. She has also acted in movies and series like ‘Ajoche’, ‘King of Boys’, My Siblings, and I, etc.

Unigwe won the 2022 AMVCA Trailblazer Award.
