Nollywood is preparing for a historic moment as the producers of the movie Black Market attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.

The ambitious project is a heavyweight collaborative effort between Rixel Studios, FilmOne Studios, Signet Ring Studios, and Switch Visuals Production. 

Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay, it was shot in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Here are 4 interesting things you should know about this history-making event.

1. It is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the largest film screening

Black Market aims to set a world record for the largest film screening at a single venue. The producers hope to attract 50,000 people to watch the movie at one venue, surpassing the current record of about 43,624 attendees set by the Philippines’ Iglesia Ni Cristo for their film, ‘Felix Manalo,’ at the Philippine Arena on October 4, 2015. 

2. It will take place at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on Sept 26

The record attempt is scheduled for September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos. With its massive capacity and iconic status, TBS was chosen to accommodate the thousands of movie lovers expected to attend the event.

3. The movie features some of Nollywood’s biggest stars

The film is headlined by popular actors Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, two of Nollywood’s most respected actors. Their involvement has already generated excitement and is expected to help draw large audiences to the premiere.

Other cast members include Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba. It was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay.
