Nigeria’s D’Tigress Win Fourth Consecutive Afrobasket Title
Nigeria’s basketball team, D’Tigress have won the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket championship, making it a record fourth title consecutively.
D’Tigress defeated the 11-time African champions 84-74 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda on Saturday. Nigeria is now the second side, after Senegal (1974 to 1981), to have won the championship four consecutive times. This win becomes their sixth title.
The victory means that D’Tigress will now compete for a spot at the women’s basketball event of the 2024 Olympics.

Nigeria’s Amy Okonkwo who finished the final with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists, was named the Most Valuable Player of the final for her impressive show.
It was also a huge win for newly appointed D’Tigress Head Coach, Rena Wakama as she became the first woman to lead a team to the Afrobasket title.
