Mosunmola Abudu popularly known as Mo Abudu is a Nigerian media mogul, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She’s the Chief Executive Officer of Africa’s first Global Black Multi-Broadcast Entertainment Network, “Ebony Life Television”.

Early Life
Mo Abudu was born on 11 September 1964 in London, to Nigerian parents. Her parents hail from Ondo state, Nigeria. She was the eldest of three sisters. Her parents relocated to Nigeria when she was seven years old and they began to live in Lagos. She visited her grandparents who lived on a cocoa farm in Ondo State where she learned about Nigerian culture.
Educational Background
Mo Abudu attended Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Ondo state in Nigeria till the age of 11. Her father died when she was 12 years old, after which she returned to the United Kingdom to continue her education.
Mo attended Hammersmith County Secondary School and moved on to the Ridgeway School in Kent, where she lived with her local guardian in the affluent township of Tunbridge Wells.
Career
Mo Abudu started her career as a recruitment consultant in the UK in 1987. She joined the Starform Group thereafter to manage their Corporate Credit Management Exhibition for two years.
Mo went on to establish her own human resources development company called Vic Lawrence & Associates Limited (VLA). One of her projects was to develop an executive training centre at the Protea Hotel in Oakwood Park, Lagos.
She was in her late twenties and her children were in their teens, when she decided to make a complete shift in her career from human resources to media and entertainment.
In her opinion, it was the only way that she could make the impact she wished to make on people’s view of Africa.
Mo came into the entertainment industry in Nigeria by taking on the role of an executive producer and host of a television talk show titled “Moments with Mo”. The show covered a cross-section of topics including lifestyle, health, culture, politics and entertainment. She interacted with a wide spectrum of celebrities on the show, ranging from Presidents, Nobel laureates to the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. The show is still aired on M-Net reaching about 48 African countries.
She is also the creator and Executive Producer of the reality show called “The Debaters” that has been funded by the Guaranty Trust Bank and aims at giving Africa a voice in world affairs through oratory.
Achievement
Mo Abudu was instrumental in founding a non-profiting organization called, “The Inspire Africa Foundation”which is focused on raising funds for implementation of society transformation initiatives.
In 2009, the foundation organized a charity concert with other NGOs that had the theme of “Rock with a Conscience”. The funds raised were used to cater for children in slums and on the streets.
Personal Life
Mo Abudu was formerly married to Tokunbo Abudu. The details of her marriage remain a secret. Although, Mo is not married to anyone as she is still very close with her ex-husband.
The short lived relationship produced two children, Temidayo and Kojo Abudu..
Awards
“Forbes Africa” recognized Mo Abudu as the first African woman to own a Pan-Africa TV channel in 2013. Hollywood Reporter also listed her as one of the 25 most Powerful Women in Global TV in 2013 .
Mo was honored with the Entrepreneur of the Year award by Women Werk, New York in 2014. She was honored with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Honouris Causa) from Babcock University, Nigeria.
In 2015, she was also listed as one of “Forbes Africa’s Most Successful Women”.
Institute of Directors Nigeria (IODN) honored Mo Abudu, with the Fellowship Award of the institute as well as the 2017 IoD Entrepreneurial Award. Mo Abudu Bag African Achievers Award.
