Watch Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America 2019 Speak on Making History Together

For the first time in history, three black women are now wearing the crowns of the three major U.S national pageants.

Cheslie Kryst is the new Miss USA; Kaliegh Garris is Miss Teen USA 2019; and last September, Nia Franklin was crowned Miss America 2019.

Garris was crowned Miss Teen USA in April and in September, Franklin became the first Miss America to win without wearing a swimsuit.

The oldest of the three pageants is Miss America, which dates back to the early 1920s but only began accepting women of color in the 1940s.

Cheryl Browne became the first black women to participate in 1970 and Vanessa Williams has crowned the first black Miss America in 1983. She was later forced to resign her post after nude photos emerged toward the end of her reign.

The three women join “CBS This Morning” to discuss the significance of their wins.
