8 Ways To Spot A Fake Human Hair

Buying human hair is like an investment for most women. However, in this age of social media and online businesses, there has been an increase in the sale of fake human hair.

Many women have parted with their hard-earned money after falling victim to these fake human hair sellers because they can’t differentiate between natural human hair and fake hair.

Still unsure of how to spot real human hair from a fake one, these tips will help you out.

1. Do a thorough research

Before you decide to purchase human hair, it is advisable and necessary to do thorough research. Make sure to research properly to avoid buying fake hair. Whether you are buying from a well-known online store or you are buying from an individual or brand on social media, it is important you go through their reviews or comments box.

You can’t see a comment or review like “I ordered this human hair and was delivered something else” and still go ahead to purchase the hair.

2. Price

The price at which the hair in question is sold is another huge giveaway in identifying fake ones. If the human hair is sold at an unrealistically low price in the name of “special offers,” be wary because you might end up purchasing fake weaves that look like real hair.

3. Texture

When a hair bundle is virgin hair, it will have cuticles present. Human hair tends to be softer, shinier, and more durable than synthetic hair since they are made from actual human hair. Feel the texture of the hair. Natural hair has each of its strands coated with scales. The hair should thus be smooth if you rub it downward, but resists and feels different if you rub it upward. Synthetic hair is smooth whichever way you rub it.

4. Burning Test

One way of spotting fake human hair is by carrying out the burn test. Cut some strands and put them on the flame and notice how they burn. Fake hair melts while human hair burns. If it is real human hair, it will catch fire immediately and burn almost instantly while producing the smell of burning hair as it curls into a ball-like structure. If the strands are fake, instead of burning, they will melt while producing the smell of burning rubber with black smoke.

5. Bleaching Test

Another great way to know if human hair is of good quality is by carrying out the bleaching test. When you want to spot fake human hair, cut a few strands from it and apply a bleaching agent on them. Depending on the grade of hair that you purchase, human hair tends to lighten at the very first rate when you bleach it. On the other hand, exposing fake human hair to any bleaching agent has a likelihood of turning out into a total burn.

6. Tangling

If there is excessive tangling, this can indicate it is synthetic hair. It is normal for human hair to tangle a little.

The longer human hair wigs are, the more likely it is to tangle, especially at the back of the neck.

7. Shedding

This too can happen with human hair but if it is excessive, it is not genuine. Shedding should only be a few strands when you comb through. Sealing the wefts of the weave will ensure the hair stays on. Comb the weave with a wide-tooth comb from the tips to the roots to reduce shedding.

8. Water test

Natural human hair wig is wavy and curls when it is wet. Spray some water on your wig and assess its reaction. If it does not curl, it is a fake one.  It should also have a bounce to it and should never be stiff.
