A Profile On Popular Kannywood Actress, Rahama Sadau

Rahama Sadau

The name Rahama Sadau will immediately ring a bell if you are a fan of Hausa movies. Sadau is an award-winning actress who has starred in numerous Kannywood and Nollywood movies.

We’ve taken the liberty of sharing a profile on her as she turns a year older.

Early Life & Education

Rahama Ibrahim Sadau was born on December 7, 1992, in Kaduna, Nigeria. She spent most of her early life in Kaduna State, where she lived with her parents and sisters. She was almost a victim of child marriage at age 13.

Sadau studied human resource management at the School of Business and Finance of Eastern Mediterranean University in Northern Cyprus, graduating in 2019.

Acting Career

Sadau’s acting break came in 2013 when she came in contact with Nigerian actor Ali Nuhu, who introduced her to the world of acting.

Despite the fact that her parents did not really like the idea of their daughter going into the movie industry, Rahama began her acting career in the Kannywood film industry in 2013, after being introduced by actor Ali Nuhu. She went on to star in the movie called Gani Ga Wane.

In early October 2016, Rahama Sadau was reportedly banned from the Hausa film industry (Kannywood) by the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) due to her performance in a music video with singer Classiq. Sadau issued a formal apology to MOPPAN in 2017, and the suspension was lifted in January 2018 following the intervention of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The actress revealed that although the ban wasn’t a good experience, it was a stepping stone as it opened doors in her career.

Some of the movies she has starred in include Gani Ga Wane (2013), Rumana (2017), TaTu (2017), Hakkunde (2017), Sons of the Caliphate (2017), Up North (2019), Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke (2021), Almajiri (2023), and many others.

Rahama launched her own production company, Sadau Pictures, producing her first film, Rariya, in 2017. In 2022, Sadau appeared in a minor role in the Bollywood film Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2 – Agni Pariksha.

In addition to her acting and production work, Sadau is also a businesswoman. She is the founder of Sadau Beauty, a makeup brand, and owns an ice cream shop in Kaduna State named Yogohamy. She is also a brand ambassador for Maltina.

Awards and Achievements

Over the years, Rahama Sadau has bagged a couple of awards. In 2014, she won the category of Best Actress (Kannywood) at the City People Awards. That same year, she also won an award at the Arewa Films Awards.

Sadau also won Best Actress (Kannywood) at the 2015 City People Entertainment Awards.

She emerged as the Best African actress at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival in 2022 for her role in Almajiri.

Controversy

In November 2020, Sadau was caught in a controversy on Arewa Twitter over photos of a backless dress she shared, which also led to her second suspension by the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN)
