Omowunmi Dada is a Nigerian actress, presenter, ambassador, and voice-over artist. Best known for her role in the M-Net series, Jemeji, the petite actress has undoubtedly made a name for herself in the entertainment industry.

Here are some things to know about her:

Early Life

Dada was born on October 2nd, 1987, in Lagos but she hails from Ogun State. She attended Ifako International Nursery and Primary School for her primary education.

She proceeded to Command Day Secondary School, Oshodi, for her secondary education. She is a graduate of Creative Arts from the University of Lagos.

Career

Dada’s career started with stage plays while at the university. The first one that she took part in was Moremi Ajasoro, which was directed by Femi Oke. However, her first movie feature was in Oya in 2013, where she acted alongside Tunji Sotimirin.

She has several movies to her name, including Omugwo, The Gods Are Still Not To Blame, The Ghost and the Tout, Something Wicked, Oga Bolaji, Bedroom Points, Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman, Oloture, Madam Koi Koi amongst others.

Dada has been featured in a lot of television series, including the Ebonylife TV series, Married to the GameBest Friends and Dere, an African adaptation of Disney’s “Cinderella “.  She also appeared in the television series Jemeji, TinselSo Wrong So WrightNeedles Eyes, and Bella’s Place, among others.

She also featured in the critically acclaimed stage production, Isale Eko, a stage play, which was adopted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of Lagos State in 2017.

In 2019, Dada played the voice of the titular character in Nigeria’s first animated full-length feature film, Sade.

Awards

She was named Best Actress of the Year in Nigeria by award-winning Nigerian filmmaker and critic, Charles Novia in December 2017.

She also won the Best Actress Award 2017 at CRMABest Supporting Actress at the City People Movie Awards, and was nominated for Best Actress on Big Screen and TV at the Eloy Awards 2017.

Dada won Best Lead Actress at the Real-Time Film Festival in June 2019. In 2020, she won the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ award at the Best of Nollywood Awards. In 2023, she won the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award at the AMVCAs for her role in ‘Country Hard’.

She was named the 2023 Global Artist in Residence at the University of Michigan.

 

Dada is an ambassador for the Daivyan Children’s Cancer Foundation, which advocates for awareness and support for children living with cancer.
