The Sad Story Of How 30-Year-Old Queen Nwazuo Set To Wed In February Was Killed By A Stray Bullet During The Oyigbo Killings

The extra-judicial killings taking place in Oyigbo local government area of Rivers States have led to the death of Queen Nwazuo.

Nwazuo was hit by a stray bullet fired by some policemen while sitting in her fiance’s shop on October 22.

Reports emerged that the stray bullet pierced through the closed iron door of the shop and hit her on the neck and she was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The 30-year-old was a final year student of the Aba State Polytechnic and was set to marry in February 2021.

In an interview with BBC Igbo, Monday Bakor, 36, said that a police officer shot dead his fiancée Queen Nwazuo on 22 October while they were both locking up their barbing salon.

“I saw the policeman wearing [a] red beret. Before I could know, I heard a very loud sound, not in the air, directly at the shop. The bullet pierced through the iron door and hit her,” he said.

“I rushed her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead,” he added.

Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni told the BBC that no report had been made of the incident.

Mr Bakor said he could not do this because of a 24-hour curfew in the area and pointed out the closest police stations had been burnt down.

The tensions in Oyigbo spilled over following the #EndSars protests against police brutality in the country.

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which has Nnamdi Kanu as its leader are said to have clashed with security operatives in Abia.

The crisis spilled over into the neighbouring Oyigbo town which is a known IPOB stronghold.

A 24-hour curfew had been declared in the area on October 21 by the Rivers State Governor following an attack on police stations and courts.
